Brunello is produced from Sangiovese grapes and is known as the 'King of Italian reds' with a DOCG denomination (Denominazione Di Origine Controllata E Garantita). Brunello Di Montalcino Casa Di Baldassi 2004 is made in the hills surrounding the town of Montalcino in Southern Tuscany, south of Sienna, and is aged in oak barrels for two years.
Cherries and plums hit you between the eyes with this excellent example of a Brunello. Plenty of depth without being over powered by fruit or alcohol. The colour is striking, closer to Pinot Noir, with its light red tint.
Not cheap, but this Brunello rewards the drinker as the bottle progresses with incredible flavours hitting you as is slips down. A class Italian.
